Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, represented the Kingdom during Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president of the United States on Monday at the US Capitol, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
In a statement to MAP following the ceremony, Amrani underscored key messages conveyed in the letter of congratulations sent by King Mohammed VI to President Trump.
The letter highlighted the exceptional bilateral relationship between the two countries, noting the historical depth of the alliance and its promising prospects.
The ambassador reflected on the unique genesis of this partnership, recalling that Morocco was the first country to recognize the United States’ independence on the international stage.
In his remarks, Ambassador Amrani also reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its historical partnership with the US, identifying vast opportunities to expand bilateral relations in critical areas such as security, economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and innovation.
The Moroccan diplomat highlighted that, in line with Morocco’s ambitious, sustained, and lasting progress, collaboration with the new U.S. administration opens up numerous opportunities to not only consolidate the historical alliance but also explore new avenues for strategic cooperation.
Several former presidents, political leaders, and influential billionaires attended the inauguration ceremony, including Amazon Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos, Tesla Inc. and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta.
