Mexican border officials have announced finding a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle migrants and contraband between the US and Mexico, the BBC reported.
The tunnel extends over 300 meters underground, connecting Ciudad Juarez in Mexico and El Paso in Texas. The tunnel was concealed in a storm sewer system and discovered last week, despite the year-long construction effort it might have taken.
Mexican officials announced that the tunnel will be sealed as investigators look into whether local authorities were aware of its construction.
Security along the US-Mexico border has ramped up ahead of the inauguration of President Donald Trump on Monday, who has pledged to launch a mass deportation of irregular immigrants once in office.
