Morocco’s Marrakech will host the first Cinema and History Festival from January 23 to 27, to explore Morocco’s identity and history through the lens of cinema, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Sponsored by the Association of Cinema and History, the festival is under the theme “Cinema and Memory” and will delve into Morocco’s history of resistance while examining how cinematic portrayals of the country’s past shape the collective consciousness of Moroccans.
The program features screenings of acclaimed films, including “55 Fez Summer” by Abdelhai Laraki and “Sika” by Rabii El Jawhari, along with educational short films tailored for school students.
Attendees can also participate in workshops on photography, directing, acting, and screenwriting. A national symposium entitled “Cinema and Memory: The Moroccan Experience, Realities, and Challenges” will further enrich the event’s intellectual offerings.
Additional highlights include an open discussion with Moroccan actor Hicham Bahloul on “Acting and Memory” and a tribute to celebrated filmmaker Saad Chraibi.
The festival promises to be a vibrant platform for celebrating Morocco’s rich history and exploring its cultural heritage through the power of cinema.
