Azerbaijan reported its first case of monkeypox on Saturday, according to a joint statement from the country’s Ministry of Health and the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB).
The patient is a 22-year-old Azerbaijani citizen who complained of symptoms such as fatigue, fever, vesicular rashes, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle pain after returning from an overseas trip, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Health and TABIB.
PCR testing of a swab taken from the patient’s skin lesions confirmed the presence of the monkeypox virus in his system.
The patient is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment, the statement added. Family members who were in contact with the individual have shown no signs of illness and are under medical observation at home.
