The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity started its 2025 medical outreach campaign on Friday to improve access to basic healthcare for residents of remote areas in Zagora, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
As part of the foundation’s 2023 health program, the foundation is equipped with its Connected Mobile Medical Units (UMMC–FMVS), which can reach remote areas such as the Feouata and Taghbalt communities, this year’s target communities.
The campaign will perform 150 cataract surgeries, with patients being identified 48 hours prior via medical consultations in the Tinfou El Berrania and Ait Mnad units, according to MAP.
The UMMC–FMVS is equipped with surgical blocks, an ophthalmology consultation area, a biology lab, and a pharmacy, all designed to ensure a smooth pre- and post-operative care process.
The units is composed of a team of 50 medical professionals and social workers, including doctors, volunteers from the Moroccan Medical Solidarity Association (AMMS), and Mohammed V Foundation staff members.
The team includes ophthalmologists, anesthesiologists, and eye surgeons. AMMS also provides logistical support with two ophthalmic surgery units comprising four operating rooms.
The campaign is the result of a collaborative effort between the foundation, local authorities, the Provincial Health and Social Protection Delegation, and AMMS, ensuring optimal care for patients and seamless coordination on-site.
