Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, announced a new chapter in Morocco’s water conservation efforts on Thursday with a renewed pledge to cooperate with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
Baraka told MAP that Morocco’s partnership with AUDA-NEPAD bolsters South-South collaborations to share expertise and successful practices with sub-Saharan African countries.
The partnership promotes water conservation techniques, renewable energy-powered desalination, and integrated water management strategies.
Baraka also highlighted Morocco’s infrastructure projects and contributions to the country’s development, including the Tanger Med Port, Nador West Med Port, and Dakhla Atlantic Port.
Baraka held the meeting with AUDA-NEPAD’s Director General, Nardos Bekele-Thomas, who highlighted the meeting as “fruitful” and noted its significance in advancing discussions initiated in 2022 on strategic water-related projects across Africa.
She reportedly commended Morocco’s recognized expertise in water management and innovative solutions, such as redistributing water resources between regions.
