As part of the recent Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement, the first group of hostages, comprised of three individuals, is set to be released on Sunday, according to a post from the Israeli Prime Minister’s office on X this Friday.
Israel’s security cabinet approved the ceasefire deal, which will bring an end to the conflict in Gaza. This follows an agreement brokered by mediators Qatar and the United States with both Israel and Hamas on Wednesday. The full Israeli cabinet is scheduled to convene later on Friday to review the agreement.
Pending approval by the Security Cabinet and the Government, and the agreement taking effect, the release of the hostages will be implemented according to the planned framework in which the hostages are expected to be released on Sunday.

“After evaluating all political, security, and humanitarian factors, and recognizing that the proposed deal aligns with the goals of the war,” the security cabinet has recommended the government approve the ceasefire, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
Alongside the release of Israeli hostages, Israel is expected to free hundreds of Palestinian detainees, including some serving life sentences.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has supported the agreement, calling it the “right move” and encouraging Netanyahu to move forward with the deal.
However, the Prime Minister’s office stated that there are still several “unresolved issues” that the cabinet must address, leaving some uncertainty regarding the deal. These issues were not specified. Far-right ministers have expressed opposition to the agreement, with one threatening to resign if it proceeds.
