Casablanca police arrested nine individuals on Thursday evening in the Sidi Bernoussi district for alleged hooliganism, violent behavior, and damage to public property, according to security sources.
The arrests came after reports of violent clashes between supporters of Casablanca’s two major football teams, Raja AC and Wydad AC. Rival supporters allegedly threw stones at each other, posing a significant risk to public safety.
Police intervened to disperse the groups, during which one officer sustained injuries, and a law enforcement vehicle was damaged.
During the operation, officers allegedly seized weapons, including two smoke grenades and stones. The suspects are currently in custody pending further investigation by the public prosecutor’s office.
