Renowned American film director and creator of the landmark television show Twin Peaks David Lynch has died at aged 78.
Lynch’s family announced his death on his official Facebook page. “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch,” the statement read.
“We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.”
Lynch’s death is likely related to an earlier diagnosis of emphysema in August 2024. At that time he spoke of his breathing difficulties and overall deteriorating health.
“I can hardly walk across a room,” he said. “It’s like you’re walking around with a plastic bag around your head.”
Lynch was known for his surrealist vision of America and the countercultural subject matter in his creations.
He directed movies such as Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Mulholland Drive, as well as the popular TV series he co-created with Mark Frost, Twin Peaks.
