United States Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) called Morocco a “long-standing key partner” of the US during a public session of Congress on Wednesday, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
He also highlighted America’s historic decision in 2020 recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara under the administration of then-President Donald Trump, who will take office as President again on Monday, January 20. He cited Trumps’ proclamation recognizing Morocco’s full and complete sovereignty over the Sahara.
Wilson, who leads the U.S.-Morocco Friendship Group in the House of Representatives, also warned of the threat posed by the “terrorist militia” of the Polisario Front and its supporters to stability in West Africa.
He accused Algeria’s allies—Russia, Iran, and Cuba—of destabilizing West Africa and Morocco, highlighting growing regional tensions and the impact on U.S. strategic interests.
Noting Morocco’s strategic role in fostering regional security and cooperation, the congressman said it’s important to maintain strong ties with the kingdom.
