Israeli airstrikes killed at least another 70 people in Gaza on Thursday, just hours after a hostage ceasefire deal was announced on Wednesday to bring an end to the 15-month war in Gaza, Reuters reported.
The ceasefire deal was supposed to be voted on this morning by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, but the PM delayed the Thursday morning meeting, accusing Hamas of making last-minute amendments.
“The Israeli cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.
Hamas stated that it is committed to the ceasefire agreement released on Wednesday, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to stop the war that has killed over 46,000 people in Gaza.
The deal is scheduled to be implemented starting Sunday, and it outlines a six-week initial ceasefire with the gradual withdrawal of Israel’s forces from the Gaza Strip.
Under the agreement, Hamas agreed to free Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians detained by Israel.
