Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is recovering after being stabbed at least six times by an intruder at his Mumbai home on January 16, according to Al Jazeera.
The incident occurred when the 54-year-old actor confronted an unidentified man who had entered his family home shortly after midnight.
“Saif Ali Khan has undergone surgery and is out of danger. He is currently recovering, and doctors are monitoring his progress,” his team said in a statement. “We would like to thank Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Nitin Dange, Leena Jain, and the team at Lilavati Hospital.
Dr. Dange further explained to reporters that the star had sustained a significant injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine.
“Surgery was carried out to remove the knife and repair a cerebrospinal fluid leak. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one on his neck were treated by the plastic surgery team,” he added.
Saif Ali Khan is married to fellow Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, and the couple has two children.
His team reassured fans that his family is safe following the incident, described as an “attempted burglary.” Mumbai’s Deputy Police Commissioner, Dixit Gedam, confirmed to the press that the case is under investigation, and the attacker is being sought.
Saif Ali Khan, the son of actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, made his Bollywood debut in the early 1990s.
Some of his notable films include the romantic comedies Dil Chahta Hai and Love Aaj Kal, the Netflix series The Lord of Bombay, and action films Tanhaji and Devara: Part 1.
