The 49th Hassan II Golf Trophy and the 28th Lalla Meryem Cup golf tournaments will be held from February 3-8, 2025, at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, according to the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) and the Hassan II Golf Trophy Association which are sponsoring the two tournaments.
Featured this year in the Hassan II tournament under the theme “The Return of Champions,” are 66 golf legends, including Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie, Tom Lehman, and José María Olazábal, who are expected to deliver high-caliber performances.
In 2024, the battle for the top podium spot in the competition was intense. Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez emerged victorious, demonstrating exceptional skill throughout the tournament.
Denmark’s Thomas Bjørn finished second with a score of -9, closely followed by Australia’s Mark Hensby, who secured third place with a score of -7.
The Lalla Meryem Cup, to be held on the Blue Course, will bring together the elite of women’s golf as the first on the annual Ladies European Tour (LET) calendar. Among the 108 competitors, five players will represent Morocco, including Ines Laklalech, Maha Haddioui, and the reigning African Amateur Champion, Sofia Cherif Essakali.
In 2024, Britain’s Bronte Law dominated the competition with a total score of -13, followed by France’s Pauline Roussin Bouchard (-10) and Spain’s Fatima Fernandez Cano (-9). Ines Laklalech achieved the best performance ever recorded by a Moroccan player, finishing in a tie for 7th place with a score of -6. Sofia Cherif Essakali, just 14 years old, also impressed by cutting for the second consecutive year.
On the Green Course, the “Pro-Am Hassan II Kids Cup by First Tee” will highlight 18 young Moroccan golfers in a fun and educational competition along with professionals from the PGA Tour Champions and LET.
