The Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR) said that the number of cases of measles had risen to 79 in Moroccan prisons as of Wednesday.
Local Prison Tanger 2 reported that it now has 25 cases (24 in isolation, 1 hospitalized), Local Prison Ain Borja recorded 6 cases (5 in isolation, 1 hospitalized), Local Prison Mohammedia recorded 5 cases, while Local Prison Al Arjat recorded 3 cases.
The Central Prison of Kenitra and the local prisons of Bourkayez in Fès, Benslimane, and Souk El Arbaa each reported two cases, while the local prisons of Bouarfa, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Tétouan, Berkane, and Tan-Tan reported one case each.
Seven staff members, including a physician, have also been infected and are currently following required health protocols. The DGAPR further stated that 27 inmates have fully recovered after having been treated.
In response to the outbreak, Morocco launched a voluntary vaccination campaign. 11,620 inmates and 332 employees across the prison system have now been vaccinated.
