At least 25 people have lost their lives as wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles County, ABC reported. Firefighters are battling blazes across the densely populated region, with thousands of residents displaced and extensive property damage.
The fire which began in Pacific Palisades on January 7, has already consumed over 9,000 hectares and destroyed around 5,000 buildings. The four major fires still active in the region have caused significant casualties, with the Eaton Fire accounting for 17 deaths and the Palisades Fire claiming eight lives.
The financial toll of the fires has been staggering, with estimated damages reaching approximately USD 275 billion, making this wildfire season one of the most catastrophic and expensive in modern history.
Authorities continue to urge residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders as the fires remain uncontrolled. Fire crews are working tirelessly to contain the blazes, but the situation remains critical.
