The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, initially set to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, to August 2025, citing the need for more time to meet infrastructure standards, the CAF announced on its website.
While significant progress has been made in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, and hospitals, CAF’s technical experts recommended additional time to ensure all facilities align with the required standards for hosting the tournament.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised the efforts of Presidents William Ruto (Kenya), Samia Suluhu Hassan (Tanzania), and Yoweri Museveni (Uganda) in advancing the necessary infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the facilities “will meet CAF standards by August 2025,” ensuring a successful tournament.
The draw for CHAN 2024 is set for January 15, 2025, in Nairobi, with the exact start date in August 2025 to be confirmed at a later date.
