The President of the Spanish Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, José Ignacio Zudaire, had met with Morocco’s new Consul General, Mohammed Yebari, to explore opportunities for expanding business and investment relations between the Biscay region and Morocco, according to the Spanish outlet Atalayar.
During the meeting, Zudaire and Yebari discussed strengthening commercial ties and identifying areas for investment and cooperation.
The strategic position of Morocco, as the world’s leading phosphate producer and a growing industrial hub, presents significant potential for collaboration.
In 2024, Biscay exported goods worth over EUR 144 million to Morocco, including equipment (EUR 36.42 million), food, beverages, and tobacco (EUR 41.10 million), and semi-products (EUR 26.68 million).
In return, the region imported goods valued at more than 18 million euros, primarily food, beverages, and tobacco (EUR 8.82 million), semi-finished products (EUR 5.5 million), and raw materials (EUR 1.44 million).
Morocco serves as a crucial logistics platform for trade between Africa, Asia, and Europe, which could further enhance bilateral trade with the Biscay region.
