Protests broke out on Sunday night in Bouira Province as residents marched the streets to voice their dissatisfaction with their living conditions under Algeria’s military-led government.
The demonstrations are part of an online campaign “#MaranichRadhi” (“I’m Not Satisfied”), which activists launched recently to protest decades of government policies.
Videos circulating on social media captured large crowds chanting peacefully in solidarity with the movement.

Activists say that security forces responded with force, attacking demonstrators in an attempt to suppress the protests. Witnesses reported scenes of chaos as military units clashed with civilians.
Algeria has seen growing unrest in recent days, with observers warning that the protests could reignite the nationwide popular movement, known as the “Hirak,” which previously demanded political reforms and an end to military rule.
The military-led government has reacted strongly to the resurgence of dissent. Authorities have reportedly detained several activists associated with the “#MaranichRadhi” campaign.
Experts attribute Algeria’s escalating social unrest to deep-rooted political, economic, and social challenges. Rising poverty and unemployment rates, coupled with years of political stagnation, have fueled public dissatisfaction.
