Morocco welcomed a record-breaking 17.4 million tourists in 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy.
The achievement surpasses the country’s tourism roadmap, which was initially set for 2026, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
In a statement to MAP, the ministry highlighted the strong performance of Morocco’s tourism sector, noting a 20% increase in tourists in 2024 compared to 2023, amounting to 3 million additional visitors.
The increase encompasses both international tourists (8.8 million, up 23%) and Moroccans residing abroad (8.6 million, up 17%), nearly an even split.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor attributed the success to the strategic vision of King Mohammed VI and the government’s focused investments in the tourism sector, the same source added.
“This record of 17.4 million visitors is a testament to the remarkable progress our country has achieved,” Ammor noted.
The results highlights Morocco’s booming tourism sector and its position as a travel hotspot in Africa, the ministry concluded.
