The Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR) announced on Friday that 47 cases of measles have been reported across nine prison facilities in Morocco.
Seven individuals have recovered after undergoing the required health protocols, according to DGAPR. Currently, there are 40 active cases, with 38 individuals in quarantine and two receiving treatment at public hospitals, Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP) reported.
At two prisons in Tangier, 16 cases were reported, with 15 individuals in quarantine and one hospitalized. A prison in Mohammedia recorded nine cases, while Ain Borja prison reported seven cases, six of whom are in quarantine and one receiving treatment at a public hospital.
DGAPR also noted that two cases were identified at Kenitra Central Prison and the Bourkaiz prison in Fez. Meanwhile, individual cases were reported at prisons inBouâarfa, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Benslimane, and Tétouan.
Among prison staff, five cases of measles were recorded, with one individual having recovered and the others undergoing the prescribed health protocol.
To combat the spread of measles, DGAPR, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, launched a voluntary vaccination campaign. This initiative reportedly benefited 3,788 inmates and 84 staff members under the supervision of medical teams from the ministry’s delegations.
DGAPR pointed out that all prison facilities remain actively mobilized to prevent and control the spread of the disease. This is being carried out in line with a directive specifically for this purpose and in close coordination with the relevant ministry.
