Morocco’s swift support for Spain following the devastating floods amid strom DANA has been hailed as a testament to the “depth of relations between the two friendly and brotherly nations,” Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska stated on Wednesday in a video message broadcasted during a ceremony in Valencia
Marlaska commended the exceptional efforts of Moroccan teams, deployed under the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, to assist with relief operations in the flood-stricken region, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
He highlighted Spain’s enduring gratitude for this “invaluable assistance” during a time of profound distress.
Marlaska stressed the significance of this solidarity, noting that 103 Moroccan agents made a “significant contribution” to the rehabilitation of affected areas. Moroccan teams cleared over 350 kilometers of networks and cleaned 200 garages, providing crucial aid for the resumption of activities.
“Your hard work, dedication, and generosity have left an indelible mark on the hearts of Spaniards. Spain will always remember this fraternal aid and exemplary cooperation,” Marlaska said.
The ceremony attended by Spanish politicians and authorities was marked by a unanimous expression of gratitude towards Morocco for its vital support.
Virginia Barcones, Director General of Civil Protection, expressed her deep appreciation to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s “decisive and effective” assistance in the Valencia relief efforts. Speaking of Morocco’s rapid mobilization, Barcones remarked that “this gesture embodies exemplary solidarity and demonstrates the strength of the partnership between Spain and Morocco.”
The event also featured the presentation of certificates of recognition to members of the Moroccan contingent, honoring their outstanding contributions to reconstruction efforts and support for affected communities.
Morocco’s aid operation included two exceptional convoys, comprising 37 high-powered suction trucks and 103 operators, dispatched to assist Valencia’s recovery from the devastating effects of Storm DANA..
