The Moroccan Prison Administration (DGAPR) has reported 41 cases of measles across several prisons in Morocco, according to a statement released on Wednesday cited by local media.
The local prison of Tangier 2 is the most affected, with 23 confirmed cases, including two infected among the staff.
The DGAPR’s report also highlighted more infections in other prisons, with seven cases recorded in the local prison of Mohammedia, five in Ain Bourja prison in Casablanca, and two cases each in the central prison of Kenitra and the local prison of Bourkaiz in Fez. One case has been identified in the local prisons of Tetouan and Kalaat El Sraghna.
The DGAPR said that they have undertaken quarantine and isolation measures for new suspected cases in addition to providing the necessary medical aid for affected inmates.
Employees were offered the option of vaccination against the disease, administered under the supervision of medical personnel from the relevant health services.
The statement did not specify if inmates will also receive the measles vaccine.
