At least five people have been killed as a result of the deadly Los Angeles wildfires, which continue to burn across LA County for the second day in a row, CNN reported.
The Palisades fire is the most destructive to ever hit LA, prompting Mayor Karen Bass to describe the state of some areas as if “a bomb was dropped on them.”
Local authorities estimated that the real death toll might be much higher as the fire has yet to be contained, and authorities estimate the number of destroyed buildings to be “in the thousands,” the same source reported.
“This is a crisis, and we don’t know what to expect. Be patient with us when you ask us about death toll numbers. Right now, frankly, we don’t know yet. We eventually will.” Robert Luna, Los Angeles County sheriff, said.
Even when the blaze is out, residents will face hazardous conditions, such as polluted air and contaminated water.
