Max Brisson, a French senator and member of the France-Morocco interparliamentary friendship group, called development projects in renewable energy, tourism, fishing, and agriculture underway in Morocco’s Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region “impressive” on Wednesday.
During a visit to the region led by Morocco’s Chamber of Councillors, Brisson underscored France’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Morocco in these key sectors. “The progress we’ve seen here reflects the region’s potential as a hub for investment and innovation,” he told reporters.
The French delegation reviewed Dakhla’s socio-economic achievements firsthand over the one-day visit and saw the city’s rapid transformation. Mohamed Zidouh, president of Morocco’s parliamentary friendship group with France, described the visit as a symbol of the enduring ties between the two nations.
“The senators saw the region’s growth up close,” Zidouh said, citing major projects such as the Dakhla Atlantic Port and a seawater desalination station as driving forces behind the area’s development which the senators had visited.
During their tour, the delegation met with regional leaders, including Governor Ali Khalil, Vice President of the Regional Council Moulay Boutal Lembarki, and Dakhla’s Municipal Council President Erragheb Hormatallah. The talks centered on infrastructure development, tourism expansion, and renewable energy initiatives.
The group also attended a presentation by Mounir Houari, director of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Investment Center. Houari detailed the region’s economic engines, highlighting significant opportunities in agriculture, fishing, tourism, and renewable energy, as well as the ambitious infrastructure projects transforming the area.
