Sixteen new standards for Turkish steel and iron products will enter into effect in Morocco beginning January 21, according to an official statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Industry. These will apply to flat and long steel categories of metal as well as sandwich panels.
Originally scheduled to go into effect on August 2, 2024, enforcement has been delayed due to administrative and logistical challenges.
Because local laboratories for testing product compliance are presently not ready to test 100%, only part of the standards will be applied initially, according to Moroccan customs authorities. Currently, controlled products are subject to existing customs regulations outlined in Moroccan circulars.
The Ministry of Industry is expected to provide clarity on the implementation timelines going forward, but until such time, companies are advised to consult the Customs Tariff Statistics Positions (GTIP) information in customs circulars.
Six of the introduced standards already align with specific GTIP codes, largely consistent with those applied to industrial products requiring special inspection upon entry into Morocco, as previously detailed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
