Marrakesh’s exports of traditional handicrafts surpassed MAD 458 million (USD 45.8 million) in 2024, up 41% compared to 2023, according to data from the Regional Directorate of Traditional Industry and Social and Solidarity Economy for Marrakesh-Safi.
The surge in export value stemmed largely from skyrocketing demand from the US, which went up more than 80%. The US was the top destination, accounting for MAD 187 million (USD 18.7 million), or about 20% of total exports.
Exports to Arab countries and Spain also climbed by 61%. France followed in second place with 9%, and Arab countries took third with 3%.
Traditional carpets, pottery, copperware, and wooden crafts dominated the export market, representing over 60% of Marrakesh’s total export value in 2024.
