BTR New Material, a global leader in the production of cathodes and anodes for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, has announced plans to construct two new factories in Morocco with a total investment of MAD 6 billion, according to media reports.
Located in Tangier, the facilities are expected to bolster Morocco’s expanding industrial ecosystem and are projected to be operational by 2026.
The anode plant will be based in Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City, an industrial and technological complex designed to attract foreign investment in future-focused sectors.
The project is expected to create over 1,100 highly skilled jobs.
The announcement came during a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Investment, Karim Zidane, and BTR New Material’s Vice President, Yang Shuzhan. Both officials expressed their shared vision of establishing Morocco as a strategic hub for electric battery technologies.
During the meeting, the discussions focused on the construction progress of a cathode factory launched in early 2024 and the development of a new anode manufacturing facility.
