Morocco is expected to compete in the finals of three global cooking competitions, the Bocuse d’Or, the Pastry World Cup, and the Supplier World Cup, which are scheduled to take place at the Sirha exhibition in Lyon, France, from January 23-27.
The Moroccan teams earned their place at these tournaments through the TOC Africa selections, held in Marrakech on September 12–13, 2024. Their performances garnered praise for showcasing “excellence and innovation” on the international stage.
Chef Yassine Bogdad, assisted by Youssef Lamghani and coached by Ahmed Bem Semlali, will represent Morocco in the Bocuse d’Or. The team will compete on the first day, presenting dishes inspired by Morocco’s rich culinary heritage that conform to international standards.
The Bocuse d’Or is one of the world’s most prestigious cooking competitions, held every two years to test chefs’ creativity, skills, and ability to elevate ingredients. This year, 24 countries, including Morocco, will compete.
Morocco qualified after winning first place in the Bocuse d’Or Africa held in Marrakech in September 2024.
In Pastry, the Moroccan team includes Rachid Ouakkas, with Omar Eddib specializing in sweet creations, Mohamed El Yazidi in chocolate, and Mohamed Lamraoui in frozen desserts.
Under the theme “National Heritage,” the team will create desserts and artistic pieces that blend traditional Moroccan flavors with modern innovation.
Since its establishment in 1989, the Pastry World Cup has been a prestigious competition celebrating the world’s best pastry chefs. This year, 18 countries will compete in the final, having qualified through events such as the Africa Pastry Cup held in Marrakech.
The Supplier World Cup features 12 teams of chefs and caterers from five continents, chosen through rigorous regional trials. The competition celebrates gastronomy with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and outstanding presentation.
Through these competitions, Morocco’s teams will showcase their talent and bring the nation’s unique culinary art to a global audience.
