American authorities deported the French hacker Sébastien Raoult to France in December after he spent a total of two and a half years in Morocco and US prison, “Le Parisien” reported.
The 22-year-old was arrested in Morocco in 2022 following an FBI request, where he spent eight months behind bars and was later extradited to the US in January 2023.
Following his extradition, Raoult was sentenced to three years in prison and fined more than USD 5 million for charges of “conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft,” according to a US Attorney’s Office press release.
After two and a half years in US prisons, Raoult was released through sentence remission. “The American judge clearly understood that Sébastien Raoult was not the malicious hacker he was initially portrayed to be,” Raoult’s lawyer, Philippe Ohayon, told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
