Syrian International and domestic flights will resume next week, allowing displaced Syrians abroad to come back home, Al Jazeera reported.
Syrian Airlines announced it will begin flights from Damascus to Dubai on Tuesday. An airline employee confirmed the news, noting, “The decision reflects growing confidence in Syria’s stability.”
This development comes shortly after Qatar Airways announced plans to resume operations in Syria. Starting Tuesday, the airline will offer three weekly flights to Damascus, the first flights from Qatar to Syria in nearly 13 years.
Domestic air travel has also made strides. On December 18, a Damascus-to-Aleppo flight marked the resumption of Syrian Airlines’ domestic operations, according to AFP.
Government officials view these developments as a sign of progress. They also consider the flights an opportunity to invite hundreds of thousands of Syrians living abroad to return and contribute to rebuilding the nation.
