Morocco’s theatrical troupe “Anfass” will represent the country at the 15th Arab Theater Festival in Muscat, Oman. The group’s production Hom (Them) will compete for the prestigious Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi Prize, a top honor in Arab theater.
The festival will run from January 9 to 15. Organized by the Arab Theater Authority in collaboration with Oman’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, as well as the Oman Theater Association, this year’s festival brings together 15 theatrical performances chosen from a pool of 175 submissions.
Hom will compete against a line-up of productions from across the Arab world, including Oman’s “Legend of the Frankincense Tree,” Tunisia’s “Al-Boukhara,” Jordan’s “The Refuge,” Bahrain’s “The Institution,” Qatar’s “Between Two Hearts,” Palestine’s “Feather,” Iraq’s “Circus,” Kuwait’s “Ghasat Oubour,” the UAE’s “How Do We Forgive Ourselves?,” and Egypt’s “Adaptation of Macbeth.”
The festival will also celebrate academic contributions to Arab theater, awarding the winners of the Arab Theater Scientific Research Competition.
Among the honorees, Moroccan Zahra Ibrahim secured first place, while fellow Moroccan Hussein Al Rahawi and Lebanon’s Hossam Mohyi Eddin also received accolades.
In addition to performances and awards, the festival will feature a writers’ congress, a symposium on theatrical publications in Oman, a discussion on theater and artificial intelligence, and three sessions for book signings.
