Morocco’s Ombudsman Office recorded a total of 7,226 cases in 2023, reflecting a 22.14% increase compared to 2022, according to the office’s annual report.
The cases included grievances, complaints, settlement requests, and proactive initiatives undertaken by the institution.
Grievance files dominated the total, with over 5,300 cases accounting for more than 70% of all submissions. The figure marks a significant rise in grievances compared to the previous year.
The report highlighted the social groups most represented among the submissions. Individuals in vulnerable situations led with over 1,000 cases, followed by Moroccans living abroad with 415 cases, and widows with 251 cases.
In terms of nationalities, Moroccan citizens submitted the overwhelming majority of cases, with 7,165 files. Other complainants included Syrians (16 cases), French nationals (7 cases), and Egyptians (5 cases).
The report also detailed the sectors most impacted by the cases. The Interior sector topped the list with 1,447 cases, followed by Finance and Economy with 780 cases, and the Education, Preschool, and Sports sector with 571 cases.
