Morocco is expected to experience a significant change in weather starting Sunday, January 5, 2025, according to Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The agency forecasts a drop in temperatures, rainfall, and snowfall as an Atlantic low-pressure system moves in from the west of Europe, extending its influence over northern Morocco.
Meteorologists predict rain-laden western air currents will bring showers from Sunday afternoon through the night. Affected areas include the Atlantic plains, regions north of Safi, the Phosphate Plateaus, Oulmes, the Rif, the Mediterranean coastline, and possibly inland areas like the Saïss plain and the Middle Atlas mountains.
Strong winds and colder temperatures will accompany the rain, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms expected in the far north.
On Monday, rain will persist over the northern Atlantic plains, the Rif, the Mediterranean coast, and the mountainous areas of the Middle and High Atlas. Northern parts of the Eastern region may also see rainfall.
Snowfall is projected for high-altitude areas, including the Rif, Middle Atlas, and peaks of the northern High Atlas, as temperatures continue to drop.
