Mohamed Sektaoui, a human rights activist and the director general of Amnesty International Morocco, died at 72 on Saturday after a prolonged battle with illness, according to a Facebook post from the organization.
Sektaoui gained recognition for his uncompromising stance on human rights abuses.
Born in Ksar El Kebir on March 7, 1952, the director’s activism extended beyond Amnesty International.
He contributed significantly to Morocco’s human rights movement through his work with the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) and other organizations.
The deceased also held leadership roles in political and labor organizations, including the Union Nationale des Forces Populaires (UNFP), the Union Socialiste des Forces Populaires (USFP), and the Parti du Progres et du Socialisme (PPS).
