Four Moroccan passengers reportedly escaped from Malta’s Luqa International Airport on Wednesday after a Turkish Airlines flight bound for Marrakech made an emergency landing due to a sudden medical emergency involving a Moroccan passenger.
Maltese police have managed to arrest two of the escapees while two others remain at large, converging media reported.
The flight had departed from Istanbul Airport, and approximately two hours into the journey, the captain requested an emergency landing in Malta due to the passenger’s critical condition. The plane landed at Luqa International Airport around 11 a.m.
During the evacuation of the ailing passenger, several other Moroccan passengers seized the opportunity to flee while the aircraft was on the runway.
The incident prompted a significant security response, with Maltese police and defense forces launching extensive searches in and around the airport to apprehend the escapees.
