Israeli police announced on Friday that they have filed a preliminary statement ahead of indicting Nissim Kalibat, who is suspected of orchestrating a bomb attack in November 2021 near Israel’s Ministry of Health offices in Nazareth, northern Israel, according to local media.
The explosion caused significant damage to the building in the city. Investigators claim that Kalibat placed an explosive device at the scene, detonated it remotely, and then fled Israel in March 2022.
In April 2022, Israeli authorities indicted two other individuals, Jaffer Fahuri and Kalibat’s brother, Ali Kalibat, for their alleged involvement in the case.
In January 2023, Moroccan authorities announced that they had arrested Kalibat in Morocco. Kalibat later demanded that he be extradited, complaining about “deplorable detention conditions.” He was extradited to Israel last month after legal proceedings.
Now that the investigation has concluded, judicial proceedings against Kalibat are expected to go forward in Israel. However, no date has been scheduled for the formal indictment.
