Morocco’s Royal Gendarmerie intercepted an irregular migration operation on New Year’s Eve, which was planned to depart from southwestern Tan-Tan’s coastline toward the Spain-controlled Canary Islands.
A collaboration between Gendarmerie units from the territorial center of Telmzon and the judicial center in Tan-Tan, with support from a rapid intervention team worked to arrest the suspects.
The joint effort resulted in the interception of a four-wheel-drive vehicle, two inflatable boats, two engines, and other equipment intended for irregular migration. Additionally, authorities also confiscated a hunting rifle and ammunition during the raid.
The preemptive intervention led to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver, who had been placed in custody. The authorities are conducting further investigations to identify other potential accomplices involved in the operation.
