Laayoune held its first Desert Film Festival on Monday and Tuesday, attracting filmmakers, media professionals, and cinema enthusiasts, according to Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP).
Hosted by the Federation of Cinema and Audiovisual Professionals in the Sahara, the festival aims to connect filmmakers, inspire creativity, and showcase Morocco’s southern provinces’ cultural and cinematic potential.
Discussions explored themes such as “The Image of the Sahara in Moroccan Cinema” and “The Sahara as a Space for Literary and Cinematic Creativity.”
Participants noted the region’s expansive landscapes and Hassani cultural heritage as unique inspirations for filmmaking.
Attendees reiterated the role of documentaries in preserving Hassani culture, describing them as a powerful medium for authentically capturing the region’s heritage.
