Casablanca’s Court of First Instance has postponed the trial of Moroccan activist Fouad Abdelmoumni to January 20 to allow time for the defense to prepare, local media reported.
According to local media, the decision to adjourn was made during Monday’s hearing. Abdelmoumni faces charges of insulting an organized body, spreading false allegations, and reporting a fabricated crime he allegedly knew had not occurred.
The case stems from social media posts that prosecutors claim were defamatory towards the Kingdom and certain national institutions. Authorities argue that the content exceeded the boundaries of free expression and included elements constituting punishable offenses under Moroccan law.
In November, Casablanca’s public prosecutor’s office referred Abdelmoumni to trial while granting him provisional release. The case continues to draw significant public and media attention as debates around freedom of expression and legal limits persist.
