Spanish authorities made the largest drug bust in southern Spain after seizing seven tons of cocaine from buried containers on a farm near Seville. Spanish authorities arrested three suspects during the operation, officials confirmed on Monday.
Agents started the operation on Friday after spotting two suspicious narco-boats entering the Guadalquivir River. Believing the boats carried illegal substances, officers tracked the cargo to a fortified farm in Coria del Río, about nine miles south of Seville.
Investigators uncovered two shipping containers buried underground on the property. A criminal organization used the containers to store cocaine and weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle and two other long firearms. Officers also recovered two stolen vehicles during the raid.
“This operation delivered the largest cocaine seizure in the southern peninsula and dealt a major blow to drug trafficking networks in the Guadalquivir River region,” Spanish authorities stated.
