The Moroccan market has untapped opportunities estimated at MAD 12 billion in potential exports to Africa, Morocco’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade in charge of Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira, said on Monday in Rabat during oral question time in the Lower House of Parliament.
In response to questions about Morocco’s foreign trade in Africa, Hejira said that studies have shown numerous prospects across various regions of the continent, including 60 investment projects that could significantly boost Moroccan exports.
He encouraged Moroccan exporters, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to expand their exports to Africa, a promising market with a consumer base of 1.3 billion people.
Hejira highlighted that trade volume between Morocco and African countries rose from MAD 36.3 billion to MAD 52.7 billion in 2023, noting that exports to African countries represent 7.6% of Morocco’s total exports.
Phosphates and their derivatives account for two-thirds of these exports, followed by fishery products (36%), vehicles (38%), textiles and clothing (2%), leather goods (36%), and electrical equipment (19.5%).
Hejira also announced that the ministry is organizing an exhibition of Moroccan export products, scheduled for the end of 2025. The expo will include a dedicated section for African products to encourage parity between Moroccan and African exports.
