The Taliban announced on Sunday that all foreign and domestic nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that will employ Afghan women will be shut down, AP reported.
The decision comes after two years since the Taliban forced NGOs to stop hiring Afghan women, purportedly for failing to wear the hijab properly.
The country’s Ministry of Economy warned in a letter published on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night that NGOs would lose their license to operate in Afghanistan if they did not follow the most recent directive.
The ministry said it was responsible for registering, coordinating, leading, and overseeing all domestic and international NGO operations.
According to the letter, the government was once again directing that all women employees in non-Taliban institutions be discontinued.
