Libya’s State Minister for Communications and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, arrived in Damascus on Saturday for talks with Syria’s new de facto leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Sunday.
The leaders discussed military and security cooperation following Syria’s leadership change under Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
“This meeting is particularly significant because of its timing and the shared issues between Libya and Syria, especially concerning military and security matters, as well as the broader implications of Syria’s recent developments in the region,” Al-Lafi said.
Since the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, Arab officials have visited Syria to strengthen collaboration, support reconstruction, and help ensure a peaceful power transition in the war-torn country.
