Libya’s Transport Minister Mohamed Al-Shahoubi announced plans to restore air connections with Morocco, suspended since 2015, and open a maritime route between the two nations starting in 2025, according to informed sources.
The shift came after a meeting in Rabat this week with Moroccan Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, where both officials highlighted their “shared commitment” to strengthening transport cooperation.
Al-Shahoubi said reestablishing air connections would stimulate economic exchanges and strengthen bilateral ties. He also expressed Libya’s readiness to support efforts to open a maritime route to facilitate trade between Rabat and Tripoli.
Kayouh reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Libya, especially as the country moves closer to political stability.
Morocco suspended flights to and from Libya in February 2015, citing security concerns, and imposed a ban on Libyan aircraft entering Moroccan airspace.
