The Royal Gendarmerie, in collaboration with the Judicial Center, arrested 394 would-be migrants early Saturday in the Kasabi area near Guelmim, in Morocco’s southern region.
The group included Moroccan nationals, as well as migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa and Bangladesh.
Authorities conducted two separate operations in the White Beach district and Ras Oumlil commune, with the assistance of the Royal Armed Forces, Auxiliary Forces, and local authorities.
In White Beach, 140 Moroccan nationals were apprehended in the Akoujkal region, along with 171 migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa in the Am Kharshoush area. Officials seized five inflatable boats, four engines, three vehicles, and large quantities of fuel.
In Ras Oumlil, the operation led to the arrest of 69 Sub-Saharan migrants, nine Moroccans, and five Bangladeshis in the Oureyoura area. Authorities also confiscated an inflatable boat, an engine, and more fuel supplies.
Authorities have also launched efforts to track down other collaborators and participants in these operations.
