A New York judge has dismissed Jay-Z’s bid to overturn a lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000, and criticized the hip-hop mogul’s legal team for its aggressive tactics.
Shawn Carter, known as Jay-Z, has denied the accusation made by the anonymous plaintiff. Judge Analisa Torres condemned Carter’s lawyers for filing combative motions, labeling them as inflammatory and a waste of judicial resources.
The judge asserted that the legal process would not be fast-tracked based on the defense’s demands.
The plaintiff, referred to as “Jane Doe,” is allowed to pursue the case anonymously, despite the defense’s request to have her identity publicly revealed.
The amended lawsuit, initially filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs, now includes Carter. The woman claims she was sexually assaulted by both Combs and Carter during a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
The woman claims that after becoming intoxicated, she went into a bedroom, where she was raped by Carter and then by Combs. She said she struck Combs and fled the party.
