Morocco’s Interior Ministry has launched an ambitious MAD 11 billion investment program to modernize urban transport and improve service quality across Moroccan communities.
Running from 2025 to 2029, the program includes the acquisition of new buses with advanced passenger information systems and modern ticketing, as well as the construction and refurbishment of depots, bus stops, shelters, and specialized maintenance centers.
The funding will be provided by Morocco’s Urban and Interurban Road Transport Reform Support Fund (FRAT) and regional councils. Regional councils will contribute one-third of the total amount of MAD 3.66 billion, while the Ministry of the Interior will cover the remaining two-thirds, amounting to MAD 7.32 billion.
To ensure successful implementation, delegating authorities will receive support, including training for officials and local development companies. The program aims to provide top-quality services, maintain financial balance in contracts, and improve monitoring.
The Ministries of the Interior and Economy and Finance have increased their annual contribution to the FRAT fund by MAD 500 million, raising the total to MAD 3 billion to enhance interinstitutional cooperation.
