Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) outlined its efforts to modernize services, support urban expansion, and enhance public safety and security during 2024 in its end-of-year report released Tuesday.
The construction of the DGSN’s new headquarters in Rabat is 90% complete and is scheduled to open in 2025. The facility combines modern Moroccan architecture with high-security standards to enhance operational efficiency.
To meet local demands amid urban growth, the DGSN established 19 new security units, upgraded the Nador police station to a regional command, and created four new districts in Al Hoceima, Souk Sebt Oulad Namaa, Fes, and Sidi Youssef Ben Ali in Marrakech to enhance police presence and service delivery.
DGSN launched a new command and coordination center in Kenitra to manage field operations, including traffic security, emergency response, and urban surveillance, operating 24/7 for quicker, more effective responses. Two new mobile motorcycle units were also deployed in Marrakech to boost patrol efficiency.
Morocco’s Police also launched six new traffic accident units in Marrakech, Casablanca, Salé, and Kenitra, as well as five new road traffic units to cover the security zones under the Marrakech Security Directorate. In collaboration with the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA), more than 180 new speed measurement devices will be distributed nationwide to enhance traffic monitoring and enforcement.
As Morocco prepares to host major events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), DGSN upgraded sports security teams in Rabat, Marrakech, Fes, Agadir, and Tangier and launched a new unit in Casablanca to enhance event security.
New police stations were opened at Tan Tan seaport, Errachidia’s Moulay Ali Cherif Airport, and Zagora Airport to address increased traffic at border crossings, secure transport infrastructure, and strengthen border policing.
The DGSN introduced new specialized units, including K-9 teams in Casablanca, Al Hoceima, and Safi, and a mobile catering unit to support security teams in remote areas during major operations.
The Security Directorate enhanced security interventions by introducing a device called the BolaWrap, an alternative weapon for safely handling non-compliant individuals. Paired with the Taser-7 stun gun, both tools have been deployed multiple times to improve the effectiveness of security operations.
