Eighteen days after the fall of Michel Barnier’s government, censured by the National Assembly on December 5, Alexis Kohler, Secretary-General of the Élysée, announced the formation of a new cabinet on Monday.
The announcement, made shortly after 6:30 p.m., introduced a government of 35 ministers led by Prime Minister François Bayrou, who was appointed on December 13.
The new cabinet includes Élisabeth Borne as Minister of State and Minister of National Education, Higher Education, and Research. Gérald Darmanin has been named Minister of State and Minister of Justice, while Bruno Retailleau serves as Minister of State and Minister of the Interior. Manuel Valls takes on the role of Minister of State and Minister for Overseas Territories.
Catherine Vautrin has been appointed Minister of Labor, Health, Solidarity, and Families. Jean-Noël Barrot will lead the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. Eric Lombard is the new Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, with Rachida Dati heading the Ministry of Culture and Sébastien Lecornu overseeing the Ministry of the Armed Forces. Agnès Pannier-Runacher has been assigned to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Biodiversity, Forests, Seas, and Fisheries.
Other key appointments include François Rebsamen as Minister of Regional Planning and Decentralization, Annie Genevard as Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, and Laurent Marcangeli as Minister of Public Administration, Civil Service, and Simplification.
Marie Barsacq has been named Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life.
Several delegated ministers have also been appointed to support major portfolios in areas such as education, health, labor, the economy, and international relations.
