Morocco will participate in the 14th Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF), scheduled for January 9-14, 2025, alongside around 35 African countries.
The feature film competition will showcase 11 films, while 13 short films, including Moroccan productions “Chikha,”-Traditional Dancer-” by Ayoub Layoussifi, and Zahoua Raji and Pour Moi (For Me) by Intissar El Azahri, will compete in the short film category.
The African Diaspora Film Competition will feature five productions and 11 films from Egyptian film students will also compete.
The festival’s jury will include panels for feature films, short films, featuring Moroccan critic Abdelkarim Ouakrim, African Diaspora works, and student films.
In addition to the official competition, the festival will host screenings outside the competition, including a selection of Palestinian cinema.
A forum entitled “The Future of Film Festivals in the Digital Age” will gather filmmakers, organizers, broadcasters, and industry experts to discuss how digital technologies can enhance African cinema’s global visibility.
The festival will host workshops on film criticism, acting, filmmaking, mobile filmmaking, film editing, and screenwriting.
The event will honor key figures in African cinema, including late Egyptian actor Nour Cherif, Senegalese filmmaker Safi Faye, Mauritanian director Med Hondo, Egyptian screenwriter Atef Beshay, and Moroccan director and actor Tayeb Saddiki.
African filmmakers, including actor Khaled El Nabawy, director Magdy Ahmed Ali, actor Ahmed Hafiane, actress and director Akosua Busia, and director Moussa Absa, will also be recognized.
